How they break our hearts
A dear, distant friend lost a horse suddenly (likely an aneurysm) last week, and a dear, local friend is putting her horse down as soon as arrangements can be made this week. These four-legged friends of ours, they claim our hearts and souls, and then run away with them.
I've only had two horses (in the distant past) put parted with both before it came to that. I'm sure the feelings are the same as with my past beloved dogs, so I sympathize with your friend's losses.
For me, losing dogs and horses are the hardest on the heart; the former because of their complete and unconditional love, the latter because of their trust and willingness to serve.

I'll say a prayer for both your friends... what a loss, and a hard decision for the second.
